Learn the keys. Then enter the fight.
New to touch typing? Start with the two keys your index fingers can always find, build the home row, and unlock more of the keyboard as your accuracy improves.
Rest your left fingers on A S D F and your right fingers on J K L ;. Feel the raised marks on F and J; they help you return without looking down.
Your next lesson
Find F and J
Use the raised marks on F and J to return your index fingers to the home row without looking at the keyboard.
Type what you see. Mistakes stay visible so you can slow down and correct your rhythm.
Accuracy first. Speed follows.
1. Start small
Each lesson limits the keyboard to a few keys so your fingers can learn the movement before your brain has to manage the whole alphabet.
2. Prove mastery
Advance after three accurate rounds instead of simply finishing a timer. The goal is a reliable movement, not random speed.
3. Fight with the skill
Once the keyboard feels familiar, move into the Shadow Trials where words, punctuation, speed, and accuracy become part of the battle.
Touch typing starts on the home row
The home row gives each finger a reliable starting position. The left hand rests on A, S, D, and F; the right hand rests on J, K, L, and semicolon. The raised guides on F and J help typists return to that position by touch instead of looking down.
KeyNinja introduces new keys in small groups and keeps progress in this browser. For extra help, use the F and J lesson, the home row guide, or the ASDF JKL; practice page.
